Scanner or camera

Scan it in. Scan it out.

Barcodes

Tabs is inventory software with barcode scanning built in. Scan the code on a pack to add it to your stock, and scan it again at the counter to sell it. A scanner works, and so does the camera on your phone or laptop.

Scanning is faster than typing, and it picks the right item when two packs look alike. A barcode can’t tell Tabs your prices, though. The first time you scan something, you say what it costs and how many you have.

01 · Adding

Receive a delivery by scanning it.

Press Scan barcode on the Products page and point the scanner at the pack. If Tabs knows the code, it shows you the product. If it’s new, a product starts with the barcode filled in, and you add the name, the prices and the count.

  • A scanner, the camera, or the code typed in
  • A list of what you’ve added in this sitting
  • Nothing is saved until you press Add product

02 · Selling

Scan it. Sell it.

At the till, each scan adds one of that item to the order and takes it off the store’s stock when the order is made. Tabs won’t let a scan sell more than the store has.

  • Each scan adds one
  • Tap or search for what has no barcode
  • The same lookup as on the Products page

03 · Variants

A barcode for every size and colour.

Each variant of a product carries its own barcode, price and count. Scan the blue one in medium and that is the one that goes on the order, not its neighbour on the rail.

  • Within a store, a barcode belongs to one item
  • The same code can be used in another store
  • A scan also finds an item by its SKU

04 · Finding

The code finds the product.

Search your products by name, brand, SKU or barcode. Some scanners read a pack as 12 digits and others as 13, with a zero in front. Tabs treats the two as the same code.

  • UPC and EAN forms of a code match
  • Use a code you printed yourself
  • Import barcodes with your spreadsheet
