Who does what, and when

Every job has an owner. Every shift, a plan.

Work

Tabs gives a small shop a task list and a staff duty roster in the same place as its stock and sales. Give a job to one person with a deadline, plan who works when, and let each shift arrive with its own checklist.

A job told to someone at the door gets forgotten by lunch. Written down with a name and a time, it gets done, or it shows up late where you can see it.

  • Blocked, with a reason
  • Weekly roster

01 · Tasks

One job, one name, one deadline.

Say what needs doing, at which store, who owns it and when it’s due. Add a checklist for a job with parts. A task that can’t go on is marked blocked, and it has to say why.

  • Low, Normal, High or Urgent
  • “Done when”, so nobody argues about finished
  • A history of every change, with names

02 · Roster

Plan the week, then tell everyone once.

Draft the week’s shifts on a board, look it over and publish. Each person is told about their own shifts, and sees them on their own page. Copy last week when this one looks the same.

  • Drag a shift to move it, or hold Alt to copy it
  • Shifts that repeat until you stop them
  • Each store’s hours in its own time zone

03 · Checklists

Opening and closing, ticked off.

Write a routine once: opening the shop, during the shift, or closing. Every time you publish the roster, each shift that matches gets its own copy to tick.

  • For one store or every store
  • For one duty or every duty
  • A task can’t be done until every step is ticked

04 · Handover

What the next shift needs to know.

Each shift leaves one note for the next: what’s unfinished, what to watch, what came in. The person coming on sees it on their My day, with who wrote it.

  • One note per shift, which you can add to
  • The day’s notes gathered for the manager
  • My day shows your shift, tasks and checklists

05 · Orders

Every order gets an owner too.

Recording an order opens a task to fulfil it, at the store that sold it. It goes to whoever is on shift with the fulfilment duty, and it finishes by itself when everything has been handed over.

  • Nobody can tick off a delivery that hasn’t left
  • Add your own task to an order or a transfer
  • The order’s page lists the tasks about it
