You don't need an app store to keep Tabs one tap away. From the browser you already use, you can install Tabs on your phone's home screen, or give it a window of its own on a computer. It is the same Tabs, with the same account, the same business and the same figures.

Tabs hasn't opened to shops yet. Join the waitlist anywhere on this site and we'll email you when it opens. The steps below are what you'll do then.

What changes when you install it

  • It has its own icon. Tabs sits on your home screen, in your app list or in your computer's dock or taskbar, next to your other apps.
  • It opens in its own window, without the browser's address bar and tabs around it, so more of the screen is Tabs.
  • It keeps itself up to date. There is nothing to download or update. Each time Tabs opens, you get the newest version.
  • Nothing moves. Your products, orders, staff and chat are in your account, not on the device. What you do in the installed Tabs shows in the browser, on the desktop app and on everyone else's screens, and the other way round.

Before you start

Open Tabs in your browser and sign in. Then look in your account menu: press your picture at the top right of the page. If your browser can install Tabs, the menu has an Install Tabs entry.

You won't see Install Tabs if Tabs is already installed on that device, if you're using the Mac or Windows app, or if your browser can't install apps from a page. The steps for each device are below.

On an Android phone or tablet

  1. In Chrome, open Tabs and sign in.
  2. Open your account menu and press Install Tabs.
  3. Chrome asks if you want to install it. Press Install.

Tabs is added to your home screen and your app list. If you don't see Install Tabs in the menu, use Chrome's own menu instead: press the three dots at the top right, then Install app or Add to Home screen.

On an iPhone or iPad

Apple doesn't let a web page install itself, so you add Tabs from the Share menu. Pressing Install Tabs in the account menu shows these same steps.

  1. Open Tabs in Safari and sign in.
  2. Tap Share in Safari's toolbar. It's the square with an arrow pointing up.
  3. Scroll down and choose Add to Home Screen, then tap Add.

Tabs appears on your Home Screen with its own icon. Open it from there, not from Safari, to get Tabs in its own window.

On a computer

In Chrome or Edge, on Windows, a Mac or a Chromebook:

  1. Open Tabs and sign in.
  2. Open your account menu and press Install Tabs.
  3. The browser asks if you want to install it. Press Install.

Tabs opens in a window of its own and is added to your Start menu, your Applications folder or your app list. You can also press the install button at the right end of the address bar.

In Safari on a Mac, open Tabs, then choose File and Add to Dock. Safari doesn't offer Install Tabs in the account menu, because it doesn't let a page start this itself.

Prefer a proper desktop app? Tabs for Mac and Windows is coming soon: the same Tabs, with menus, shortcuts and updates of its own.

If you lose your connection

Tabs keeps your records online, so it needs a connection to show and save them. If you open the installed Tabs with no connection, it shows a page that says you're offline, in place of a browser error. When your connection is back, press Try again and you land where you meant to go.

If something goes wrong

There's no Install Tabs in my menu. Tabs may already be installed on this device: look on your home screen or in your app list. On an iPhone or iPad, use the Share menu steps above. In Firefox on a computer, which can't install apps from a page, open Tabs in Chrome or Edge to install it, or keep using it in Firefox as it is.

I pressed Install and nothing happened. The browser offers to install Tabs once per visit. Reload the page, then open the account menu and try again.

The icon opens Safari, not its own window. On iPhone and iPad, Tabs opens in its own window only from the icon you added with Add to Home Screen. Delete the old icon and add it again.

Still stuck? Email hello@usetabs.app and tell us your device, your browser and what you see.

Remove it

Removing the installed Tabs doesn't touch your business. Your account and everything in it stay, and you can still open Tabs in your browser.

  • Android: press and hold the Tabs icon, then choose Uninstall or drag it to Uninstall.
  • iPhone or iPad: press and hold the Tabs icon, then choose Remove App or Delete Bookmark.
  • Chrome or Edge on a computer: open the installed Tabs, press the three dots at the top of its window, and choose Uninstall Tabs.
  • Safari on a Mac: drag Tabs out of the Dock, or move it from your Applications folder to the Bin.

To close the account itself, see account and billing.
