Tabs for Windows is the same Tabs you use in a browser, in a window of its own. It opens from the Start menu or the taskbar, and it keeps itself up to date.
It works on Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit. Installing takes about a minute, and you don't need an administrator password: Tabs installs just for you, the person signed in to Windows.
Choose your download
There are two installers. Most PCs need the first.
| Your PC | Download |
|---|---|
| Most Windows laptops and desktops (Intel or AMD) | Download for Windows, the x64 installer |
| A Windows 11 PC with an Arm chip, such as Snapdragon | Get the Arm version |
Not sure? Open Settings, then System, then About. Under System type, "x64-based processor" means the x64 installer, and "ARM-based processor" means the Arm one. If you pick the wrong one, the installer tells you and installs nothing.
Go to usetabs.app/download. On a Windows PC, the download page puts the installer it expects you need first.
Your browser saves Tabs-windows-x64-setup.exe (or Tabs-windows-arm64-setup.exe) in your Downloads folder.
Install it
- Run the installer. Open it from your browser's downloads list, or double-click it in Downloads.
- Get past the first warning. This version of Tabs isn't signed yet, so Windows doesn't recognise it and says Windows protected your PC. Press More info, then Run anyway. The publisher shows as unknown until it's signed. Only do this for a file you downloaded from usetabs.app/download.
- Press Install. The installer copies Tabs to your PC and adds it to the Start menu. If Tabs is already open, the installer closes it first.
- Choose what happens next. On the last page, leave Open Tabs ticked to start it straight away. Tick Add a shortcut to the desktop if you want an icon there too. Press Finish.
Tabs shows its pages with Microsoft Edge WebView2, which is part of Windows 11 and of up-to-date Windows 10. If your PC doesn't have it, the installer downloads it from Microsoft for you, so stay connected to the internet while it runs.
You can delete the installer from Downloads afterwards. You won't need it again.
Open it
Press the Start button, type Tabs and press Enter. To keep Tabs on the taskbar, right-click its icon on the taskbar while it's open and choose Pin to taskbar.
Tabs opens on the sign-in page. Use the same account you use at platform.usetabs.app:
- Email and password. Enter them as you would in the browser. If you've turned on two-factor sign-in, Tabs asks for your code next.
- Continue with Google. Your browser opens so you can choose your Google account. When the browser says You're signed in, close that tab and go back to Tabs.
No account yet? Start your free trial first. Every plan has one, and you don't need a card to begin. See getting started for setting up your business.
Everything you do in the app is saved to your account, not to the PC. What you change on the desktop shows on the web, and the other way round.
Updates
Tabs checks for a new version shortly after it opens, then every few hours while it's open. When one is ready, it asks:
- Restart now closes Tabs, installs the new version and opens it again. If you're halfway through a form, Tabs asks before it throws your changes away.
- Later installs the new version the next time you quit Tabs.
There's nothing to download yourself. If you'd like the newest version straight away, close Tabs and open it again: it checks as it starts.
If something goes wrong
"Windows protected your PC." Press More info, then Run anyway. See step 2 under Install it, above.
Smart App Control blocked Tabs. On a Windows 11 PC with Smart App Control turned on, Windows blocks apps it can't check, with no way past it. Until this version of Tabs is signed, use Tabs in your browser at platform.usetabs.app. It's the same Tabs.
"This is the installer for Arm computers." Your PC needs the x64 installer. Go back to the download page and press Download for Windows.
"Tabs needs 64-bit Windows" or "Tabs needs Windows 10 or later." Your PC can't run the app. Use Tabs in your browser at platform.usetabs.app instead. It's the same Tabs.
"The Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime could not be installed." The installer couldn't download it, usually because the connection dropped. Install it from Microsoft's WebView2 page, then open Tabs.
Google sign-in doesn't come back to Tabs. Keep Tabs open while you choose your account in the browser. If the browser says This sign-in link isn't for this app, or Tabs still isn't signed in, close the browser tab and press Continue with Google in Tabs again.
Still stuck? Email hello@usetabs.app and tell us your Windows version and what you see.
Remove Tabs
- Windows 11: open Settings, then Apps, then Installed apps. Press the three dots next to Tabs and choose Uninstall.
- Windows 10: open Settings, then Apps, then Apps & features. Press Tabs, then Uninstall.
Tabs closes if it's open, and its Start menu and desktop shortcuts go with it.
Removing the app doesn't touch your business. Your products, orders and team are in your account, and you can still use them at platform.usetabs.app. To close the account itself, see account and billing.
